Looking through Rose-Colored Glasses with Both Eyes Open

Traditional wisdom points out three major factors necessary for personal and professional success -- strong cognitive abilities, interpersonal skillfulness, and a visionary perspective. However, this historical truism does not reflect everything that is needed to succeed in today’s dental environment. To prevail in these highly charged times of uncertainty requires perseverance and resiliency. Overcoming adversity is the key to mental and physical health as well as business success.

This provocative workshop will help dentists and their team identify their present level of optimism and pessimism so that they can gain more personal control over their lives. The way we think about what happens to us causes consequences that lead to success, or defeat. More than the "power of positive thinking", learned optimism is changing belief systems, not just in your words but in your heart.

Prior to this keynote address, participants will complete a self-report test and score it to determine their own level of optimism or pessimism. They also will learn skills to improve or change their way of explaining achievements and setbacks. Most importantly they will discover real freedom -- the choice of how to think and transform their professional and personal lives.

HOW TO ACHIEVE A WINNING MINDSET

Whether on the playing field or in the operatory, mental control is a deciding factor. Surviving the emotional challenges of team and patient interaction and the fast paced environment of the everyday dental office requires creativity, imagination and mental toughness. Indeed, the toughest course is the six inches between our ears.

This fun-filled, interactive presentation encompasses Dr. Haller's work with dentists and their teams. The focus is on developing a mental edge to maximize the likelihood for success. Participants will learn the common characteristics of optimal experience - that state when you feel strong, concentrated, motivated.

Using visual aids, handouts, and many activities to supplement her talk, Dr. Haller will cover such topics as:

  • Being committed to success
  • Developing awareness
  • Setting goals
  • Nurturing self-confidence
  • Gaining emotional contro
  • Learning to concentrate
